The Round The Clock (RTC) Project will be located in Abu Dhabi and is set to become the world’s first large-scale, combined solar power and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capable of delivering 1 gigawatt (GW) of baseload power every day. This groundbreaking project will feature a 5.2 GW (DC) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant coupled with a 19 GWh BESS, setting a global benchmark in clean energy innovation and reliability. It will provide uninterrupted clean power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is expected to power critical sectors, such as AI and advanced technologies, while significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
This landmark initiative is a key part of the UAE’s Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero by 2050 goals, advancing the energy transition through renewable and clean energy sources. By overcoming the intermittency challenges of solar power, the project will transform how renewable energy is integrated into the grid, ensuring a sustainable, reliable, and scalable energy future.
The RTC Project represents a monumental step in the UAE's energy transformation, reaffirming Abu Dhabi’s position as a global leader in renewable energy innovation, and setting a new standard for sustainable and reliable energy worldwide.
