EWEC marks the historic occasion with a dedicated employee gathering, fostering a shared reflection on national identity and the visionary legacy of the UAE’s founding fathers
EWEC, Emirates Water and Electricity Company, a leading company in the integrated planning, purchasing, supply and system despatch of water and electricity across the UAE, today marked Union Pledge Day by celebrating the enduring national unity and the essential strategic infrastructure that enables the nation to thrive.
Union Pledge Day commemorates 18 July 1971, the historic day the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his fellow Rulers signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution, laying the unshakable foundation of a unified nation. It is observed annually to reflect on the core values of unity, service and progress that guide the country, and to renew the collective pledge to preserve them.
For the UAE, unity has always been anchored in shared purpose and the strategic systems that translate that vision into reality. It was Sheikh Zayed's long-term foresight that a young nation could build a flourishing future through perseverance, water security, and agricultural development.
Building on that legacy, EWEC is utilising transformative innovations to accelerate the UAE’s energy transition, through world-leading solar power projects such as Noor Abu Dhabi and Al Dhafra Solar PV, and the world’s largest reverse osmosis (RO) water desalination plant, Taweelah RO, shifting the nation's water production to low-carbon-intensive desalination, and supporting the UAE's long-term water and energy security.

To mark the occasion, EWEC hosted a Union Pledge Day gathering at its offices, bringing colleagues together through interactive experiences that honoured the spirit of the day. The event included Emirati cultural activities, providing a shared moment of reflection on unity and national identity.
