EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company), a leading company in the integrated coordination of planning, purchasing, supply, and system despatch services for water and electricity across the UAE, today announced that registration is now open for its Q2 2025 Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) auction. The auction is scheduled to close on 13 June 2025.
Issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE), CECs certify that the electricity consumed by redeeming organisations originates from a renewable or clean energy source, supporting companies and consumers in verifying and reducing their scope 2 emissions. EWEC is one of the key parties enabling the implementation of the CEC scheme, acting as the Single Registrant and Auction Operator. Conforming to the internationally recognised standard developed by the International Renewable Energy Certificate Standard Foundation (I-REC Standard), CECs are issued by the DoE in units of 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) and are the only accredited instrument that proves the ownership of the environmental and economic benefits of consuming clean energy.
Francois Brice, Executive Director of Commercial and Fuel Management, said: "The significant adoption of Clean Energy Certificates reflects the strong commitment of organisations in Abu Dhabi embracing sustainable practices. EWEC is proud to play a crucial role in driving this transition by providing a robust and accessible platform for entities to decarbonise their operations in line with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative. As the UAE celebrates the Year of Community, EWEC continues to enable businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, while contributing to a brighter, more sustainable future for all. We encourage all eligible institutions and individuals in Abu Dhabi to participate in the Q2 2025 auction and to actively participate in protecting the UAE’s natural resources."
In March, EWEC entered into a strategic partnership with Burjeel Holdings to power 22 of Burjeel’s healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi with clean energy, verified through the provision of CECs, enabling Burjeel Holdings to enhance the sustainability of its operations.
In line with the UAE’s Year of Community, which aims to enhance the contributions of individuals and organisations across various sectors in shaping a sustainable future, EWEC is working towards expanding its partnerships with major entities across Abu Dhabi to further accelerate the decarbonisation of the Emirate’s key economic sectors.
Businesses, individuals, and organisations in Abu Dhabi looking to accelerate their sustainability journey can now register for EWEC’s Q2 2025 Clean Energy Certificates auction.
